Tigers Talk

Spring training is under way, and the Tigers are getting ready for their anual game against Florida Southern. Will we see a repeat of the game they barely won? No way. This team is much stronger than the team that lost 119 games. They're even stronger than the team that made a 29 game turn-around last season. Here's a quick look at what's going on in Florida.

Jason Johnson is working on his fastball. Also notable is the fact that Johnson is an every-other-year pitcher. This is a year he should excell.

Dean Palmer is continuing to try and make a comeback, even though he knows at best it's a long shot. Palmer feels he owes this to the organization. Although I'd love to see him play again, I'm not counting on him to be there opening day.

Craig Monroe, the odd man out now that Ordonez has signed? NO WAY says Monroe. Although he needs to work on his arm strength and get his errors down, Monroe could be a good fit for left field. Rondell White has the bat though, what to do...?

Jeremy Bonderman is turning heads again. The young pitcher is on the verge of being ace caliber. He's scaring his teammates with his pitches. I wouldn't expect Trammell to move him from the number three role just yet, but its nice to see his progress.

Outside Florida, Lolich and Colavito are up for the hall of fame vet's vote. Lolich should be in the hall of fame, however he wasn't a big name of his times. He quietly won games, and single handedly won the 1968 World Series.

Welcome back Mr. Joseph, where the hell have you been - in Lakeland? Want to talk about Raiola? Wait, that was another comment string. Anywho....

I hope Jason Johnson has a better year, he was lousy at best last year - blister or not.

If Dean Palmer has a strong spring, say 75% of what he used to be, could you see them keeping him on the roster, platooning him at third with Inge, cutting ties with Sanchez, using Inge in center when Deano is at third, and with the release of Sanchez unclogging their outfield a little? Yes, a run on sentence, but it was worth it to me!

Monroe will get his at bats, he will play and with no one really believing in Sanchez I could see him playing more, Ordonez or not. Plus, Higgy and White will be gone next year, so his time will definitely come.

Bonderman should stay at #3, no point in rushing him anymore than they already have. Keep it as simple as possible for him and let him grow into the #1, not be forced fed the roll.

Later - anonymous; wait, it already tells you who I am! Damn you blogger!!!!

LOL.. Honestly, there has been NOTHING going on in Detroit sports, so I've been blogging a little less. With spring training games starting today, and the Pistons getting ready for the playoffs, that should all change.

I have a hard time seeing myself putting Inge in CF. He was a GREAT short shop in college, which leads me to believe he can be a good third basemen in the bigs. So no, I wouldn't keep Palmer with those intensions. I'd keep him as a backup to Inge, if he wants to stay in that role.

Well, no hall for Lolich or anyone else. The Vets committee didn't elect anyone in. Ridiculous...
