FOXSports.com - NHL - NHL-NHLPA talks break down in Toronto

Efforts to save hockey have apparently failed? Hard to say really, but it doesn't look good. They are scheduled to meet again next week, but will they?

I would also like to add that a cut in salaries does NOT solve the problem. It is only a temporary solution, until the agents negotiate for a couple more years, and salaries start to rise again.

I agree with you. I think that's where some of the problem lies. I got the impression early on that the owners don't really trust each other. For instance, the owner of the New York Rangers spends between $70-90 million or more each year on. His teams never make the playoffs, and often times, it sets the bar a little higher for a specific position, and level of player. Thinking back on Federov, he took less money to play with Anaheim. Maybe that was good for the game.
