Lions, Tigers, and Community Service

Tigers outfielder Craig Monroe is finally over his legal woes in Florida. Monroe was charged with shoplifting after he failed to pay for a belt while shopping. Monroe will have to attend a theft prevention class and do community service.

What a fine way to treat people. Guy goes into a store, buys a bunch of things, mistakenly walks out with a belt he was trying on, and has to go to some class to learn something he already knows. What a great justice system we have.

The Lions' new offensive coordinator Ted Tollner will help Mariucci revamp the west coast offense system and call the plays next year.

"The intriguing part about Ted is that he's got 27 years of experience outside the West Coast offense," Mariucci said Thursday. "So he's got a lot of systems in his mind that we could draw from if we needed to add a certain wrinkle here and there, and add a concept. He's been with a lot of good coaches -- that he worked for, that he worked with."

Some are skeptical of Tollner. He's had a mediocre winning record and some say they should have went for someone young and energetic.

Pat Caputo of the Oakland Press offers a good perspective on being cautious with Ordonez.

He's on AM 1270 here in Detroit in the evenings. Joins the afternoon guys once or twice per week. He really liked Ordonez play, but seems pretty concerned about the knee, and truly just wants the Tigers to spend wisely and build a winner. I hope that contract, if they sign him, is performance based.
